George Buchanan was a Scottish poet and travel writer, born in 1757. His works include "A Winter's Tale," "The Farmer's Boy," and "The Antiquary." He is best remembered for his series of letters about his travels in the United States and Canada between 1832 and 1837, which were published in three volumes as The American Journals of George Buchanan, edited by John Bigelow (1838).
